Honoring Our Mothers

Mother's Day is coming up on May 12th, and in keeping with this tradition of honoring the special mom's in our lives, Emilie Barnes has created some very special Mother's Day programs for you this month on "Keep It Simple."

Throughout her Mother's Day messages, Emilie reminds us that moms are an important part of God's creation, and that a Godly mother is a gift and blessing to her family.  We need to cherish, honor and be thankful for our mothers.

During the week prior to Mother's Day, some of the special programs Emilie has recorded are:

5/6     Honor Your Mother

5/7     A Woman to Be Proud Of

5/8     A Woman of God

5/9     A Mom's Tribute

5/10   A Mother's Day Prayer

Homemakers in an Age of Feminist Mystique

Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen hit close to many American homes with her comment that Ann Romney, stay-at-home mother of five boys, "had never worked a day in her life."

The broadside didn't just hit a presidential candidate's wife but also a wide swath of Middle America moms.

It turns out the typical stay-at-home mom doesn't live next door to the "Desperate Housewives" in a four-bedroom house on Wisteria Lane. Instead, as The New York Times reported after the Rosen-Romney dust-up, 65% of stay-at-home, married mothers of children under 18 live in a household with an annual income below $75,000.

Rosen apologized, saying she valued all women's work. Trouble is, her comments fit a longtime pattern of statements by liberal feminists that seem to diminish the decision not to work outside the home.

NBA'S JASON COLLINS: 'GAY' SUPERHERO!

So I guess you’ve heard. Fading, 34 year-old NBA free agent Jason Collins has been declared a hero for publicly announcing that he digs dudes. Well, it’s about time! Used to be all a guy had to do was die at Omaha Beach or some other such nonsense. The Imperialist USA is finally seeing some major progress.

What callous soul wouldn’t be moved by this youngish man’s gallantry? Who wouldn’t shudder at his sacrifice?

Merriam-Webster’s defines courage as “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” Think of it. Just as his middling basketball career was coming to a close and he was preparing to fade into relative obscurity – joining millions of others in the Obama unemployment lines – Jason Collins stood tall and said, “No! I will not take the easy road!”

This selfless giant of a man put everything on the line and valiantly announced to the world (Optional: may or may not insert theme to “Battle Hymn of the Republic” here) – announced to the world: “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”
